Bienvenidos a Las Camas
The hostel was born in 2006 and has been a tranquilo backpacker environment since. We keep it relaxed and feeling like home here. This is probably because it is our home! = ]
We like playing music, cooking with everyone, and getting to know all of the different people from around the world. Let’s all share some memories and party together here at Las Camas.
For those who want a little distance from the fiesta we also have house with private rooms across the street.
Las Camas is totally affordable. We are here to have a good time and travel just like you, so we are want you to be comfortable in our home. We have both fan and AC dorms, and we offer special rates for long-term stays. If you are a musician, artist, or carpenter we’re willing to trade skills for stay.
Centrally located on the Pacific Coast with a population of around 10,000, which seems to double every weekend, Jaco is a vibrant beach town that is popular among both Costa Ricans and travelers from around the globe. Just a 2 hour bus ride from San Jose, it makes a great pit stop for anyone exploring Costa’s west coast, or a perfect home base point for travelling all around Central America.
The temptations are endless here and it may have a bit of a reputation, but there is so much more to this gritty little city that we love, and we always enjoy showing people the real Jaco as we know it. Between the beaches and the jungles there are unlimited adventures to be had, and after dark things only heat up.
Here are just a few of the fun things to do in and around Jaco
*Surf- We have relatively calm waves and great surf schools right here in town, but Playa Hermosa and a dozen other epic, world class breaks are just around the corner. We offer 1 on 1 lessons and rentals with new, top of the line beginner boards, or for more advanced surfers we love to organize trips all over the country to chase the swell.
*Lookout hike- Just a short hike out of town is a great lookout point at an unfinished resort overlooking all of Jaco. It’s a great spot to watch the sunset, and on the walk you might see all kinds of animals from monkeys to poison dart frogs.
*Waterfall tours- Within 30 minutes of Jaco there are several picturesque waterfalls and swimming holes, including the largest in Central America, the Pura Vida waterfall. Some spots are perfect for cliff jumping or just lounging around in the fresh mountain spring water, and we are always keen to planning a trip.
*Manuel Antonio- This national park just 45 minutes away is a must see for any nature lovers. Considered one of the most biodiverse pockets in the world, you will see many animals from bats and snakes to monkeys and sloths. The short tour ends at a perfect white sand, cove beach that is great for swimming and relaxing the day away.
